Fishing Overview: Bluefin Tuna
The approach to catching Tuna varies depending on the time of year and size class of fish.
1. Generally, expect to use one or more of the following techniques on these trips: Jigging; Trolling; "Chunking" drifting cut fish baits; Live-lining live fish (e.g., menhaden/bunker)
2. Typical tackle used:
Bait/Trolling: 80-100lb class rods, 50W reel spooled with 80-100lb mono.
Jigging: Spinning or Conventional reels with minimally 25lb drag spooled with 65lb braided/80-130lb fluorocarbon leader line.
